MobiCon 2018 was held in Mobile, Alabama on Memorial
Day Weekend, from 25 to 27 May 2018 at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza
Hotel. I attended MobiCon 2018 with my
intrepid photographer Michael W. Moses and we took a good number of photos of
costumed attendees.
For a few reasons, Mobicon 2018 seemed to have a
slightly reduced attendance. One reason
may have been due to competing conventions for the coveted Memorial Day time
slot, which gave fans a lot of options for attending conflicting cons that
weekend. Plus, as it was a traditional mundane
holiday period, potential attendees may have had a holiday with family at a
place other than a SF/F convention.
Lastly, there was an out-of-cycle subtropical storm called Alberto
lurking at the bottom of the Gulf that seemed to want to drive itself due north
and place its crosshairs uncomfortably close to the areas in and around coastal
Alabama and its environs. The storm
didn’t do much, and at the last minute swerved to enjoy some time at the
Florida Panhandle instead, but the bad press had an impact on people’s plans on
the Gulf Coast.
I don’t plan to give a description of the
convention, because it would pretty much mimic last year’s dual posts on
Mobicon 2017 (see links below). I’d like
to complement both the MobiCon staff and the staff of the hotel for their
diligence and professionalism. I know
I’ll be attending next year’s MobiCon and expect the same level of enjoyment in
2019.

installment of MobiCon 2018 photos – better late than never!
